From 29th August to 6th September 2026, Ravenna will be hosting SETTIMANA DI TEODORICO: nine days of events to celebrate the great Ostrogothic king.
This year, in particular, marks the 1.500th anniversary of the death of Theodoric the Great (30th August), as well as the 30th anniversary of the inscription of Ravenna’s Early Christian Monuments on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Theodoric Week is in fact part of the wider programme of Celebrazioni Teodoriciane, which run throughout the year with numerous initiatives dedicated to the king.
On Sunday 30th August and 6th September, admission to Theodoric’s Mausoleum is free.

An art project conceived by Andrea Bernabini (NEO Visual Project) that transforms one of the city’s most iconic monuments into an immersive experience of light, sound and storytelling.

A walk with the key figures of Theodoric’s era. Departure from Theodoric’s Palace towards Sant’Apollinare Nuovo and the Arian Baptistery, ending at Theodoric’s Mausoleum.
6 pm: Performance of “The Death of Theodoric” inside the Mausoleum. 7 pm: International Medal Competition marking the 1500th anniversary of Theodoric and Cassiodorus.

On the anniversary of his death, Giovanni Porta’s Teodorico, a musical drama from 1720, is being revived.
