From October 8th to November 27th, Ravenna hosts the 7th edition of the BIENNIAL OF CONTEMPORARY MOSAIC RAVENNAMOSAICO, a biennial exhibition that makes up for the 2021 edition, suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Ravenna presents itself to the public as the capital of mosaic, highlighting an artistic vocation focused on contemporary production but always connected to the ancient Byzantine tradition.
The city opens its most charming locations to artists from all over the world, giving life to a rich programme of events: monuments, museums, cloisters and symbolic spaces become special galleries where ancient and contemporary art continuously dialogue with each other.
MAR – Ravenna Art Museum will host the exhibition PRODIGY KID by Francesco Cavaliere and Leonardo Pivi, curated by Daniele Torcellini (from October 8th 2022 to January 8th 2023; inauguration October 7th 2022).
Since 2018, Francesco Cavaliere and Leonardo Pivi have brought their artistic practices together in a collective work, with a preference for installations of mosaics, sculptures and objects enlivened by performative, literary and musical actions.
The exhibition, created for the spaces of the MAR, will be divided into three different sections. The first two ones will be dedicated to the works individually realised by the artists during their personal careers. The third one will instead present a series of works originated from the collaboration of the two artists, as well as brand-new series created for the occasion.
On October 10th and 11th, MAR will also host the 17th International Congress called IL MOSAICO: UN’ARTE SACRA FRA CULTURE E TECNOLOGIE (lit. Mosaic, a sacred art between cultures and technologies), organised by the International Association of Contemporary Mosaicists in collaboration with the Municipality of Ravenna, the Academy of Fine Arts, Istituto Superiore di Studi Musicali “G. Verdi” and the Department for the Conservation of Cultural Heritage of the University of Bologna – Ravenna Campus.
The congress, taking place every two year in a different country, comes back to Italy and to Ravenna after 22 years, and is further enriched with an exhibition.
Palazzo Rasponi dalle Teste will exhibit a series of mosaics selected among the participants to the international contest OPERE DAL MONDO, also organised by AIMC in collaboration with the Municipality of Ravenna.
In addition to these events, the city will host many other ones, bringing together both public and private entities, such as the Ravenna National Museum, the Archbishop’s Curia with its important Unesco World Heritage Monuments, the Classense Library, the Academy of Fine Arts, Istituto Superiore di Studi Musicali “G. Verdi”, the Department for the Conservation of Cultural Heritage of the University of Bologna – Ravenna Campus, Fondazione RavennAntica, cultural associations, art galleries, mosaic workshops, the legislative assembly of the Emilia-Romagna region, the Diocesan Museum of Faenza (exhibition hall of Santa Maria dell’Angelo) and the Municipality of Ravenna (Galleria della Molinella).
