From 10th to 14th June 2026, as part of the Ravenna Festival, the play VIAGGIO IN OCCIDENTE will be staged at the Cisim in Lido Adriano.
Il viaggio in Occidente is a classic of Chinese literature which, after circulating orally for centuries, was put into writing in the 16th century.
It recounts the journey to India (the West) of Tang Sanzang – modelled on the figure of Xuanzang, a Buddhist monk who actually existed – accompanied by three disciples: Sun Wukong (Monkey King), Zhu Bajie (Pig) and Sha Wujing (Sand Monk), to whom tradition attributes, respectively, a brilliant yet restless nature, impulsiveness and trust.
A tale of adventure, spirituality and transformation that has inspired countless literary, theatrical and multimedia works over the years.
Until the reworking by the Grande Teatro di Lido Adriano which, with the choral and participatory energy that characterises it, reinterprets the text across cultures and continents.
