From June 1st to September 28th 2024 the mosaic artists of Ravenna open their mosaic workshop to promote the art form that has been characterising the city for centuries.
After a short visit to the workshop and a brief introduction to the history and techniques of mosaic, with the help of a local artisan you will have the possibility to realise a small mosaic object to bring home as an indelible memory of your time in Ravenna: a unique opportunity to learn and create a small personal work of art.

CREATE YOUR OWN SARAGHINA IN MOSAIC

Time: 2.30 pm
After a brief introduction to ancient mosaic and its contemporary evolution, learn how to use tools to cut mosaic tiles and make your own mosaic fish.

CREATE YOUR OWN CONTEMPORARY MOSAIC

Time: 2.30 pm
Tracing the history of the mosaic from the past to the present we will create with marble and glass paste a small square (about 10×10 cm) inspired by the colours and shapes of contemporary art.

Time: 2.30 pm
Through the use of marble, enamels (glass pastes) and small ceramics you can make your souvenir (about 10×10 cm) with a simple but effective design.

MAKE YOUR OWN MOSAIC JEWEL
Where: Barbara Liverani Studio – via Girolamo Rossi 21/a (RA)
Time: 2.30 pm
Learn to make a small mosaic to wear and you will feel like Theodora! During the workshop you will make a pendant that you can wear or turn into a keychain. The work is minute and so you need a little patience and if you need it, remember to wear glasses.

During the workshop you will create a recurring motif in the Roman pavements, the Solomon’s knot, symbol of the union between spiritual life and earthly life. You can choose between different colors of marble coming from Italian and foreign quarries: white Carrara, red Verona, black China or green Guatemala.
