On the occasion of the 8th Biennial of Contemporary Mosaic, from 15th October 2023 to 14th January 2024, the mosaic artists of Ravenna open their mosaic workshop to promote the art form that has been characterising the city for centuries.
After a short visit to the workshop and a brief introduction to the history and techniques of mosaic, with the help of a local artisan you will have the possibility to realise a small mosaic object to bring home as an indelible memory of your time in Ravenna: a unique opportunity to learn and create a small personal work of art.

CREATE YOUR MOSAIC JEWEL

Time: 10.30 am
Learn to create your small mosaic and wear it like Empress Teodora!
During the mosaic workshop, you will realise a pendant that you can wear or transform into a keychain. The object is small, so you will need a little patience. If you need them, remember to take your glasses with you.

CREATE YOUR MOSAIC SOUVENIR

Using marbles, glass pastes and small pieces of ceramic, you will realise your simple but eye-catching souvenir (10×10 cm).

CREATE YOUR CONTEMPORARY MOSAIC
Workshop: Dimensione Mosaico – Via Giuseppe Pasolini, 19
Time: 10.30 am
Tracing the history of mosaic from the past to the present, you will realise a small work of art (10×10 cm) inspired by the main exhibition of the Biennial of Contemporary Mosaic: BurriRavennaOro.

CREATE YOUR ANCIENT MOSAIC
Workshop: Pixel Mosaici – Via Sinistra Canale Molinetto, 181
Time: 10.30 am
During the mosaic workshop you will realise a recurring motif of Roman pavements – Solomon’s knot – symbol of the union between spiritual and earthly life. You can choose among various colours of marbles coming from caves in Italy and abroad: Carrara white, Verona red, China black or Guatemala green.

CREATE YOUR MOSAIC SARAGHINA

After a brief introduction on ancient mosaic and its contemporary evolution, learn to use the tools to cut mosaic tesserae and realise your mosaic fish.
