From Friday September 6th to Wednesday September 18th, the exhibition spaces of Palazzo Rasponi2 (PR2) will host the exhibition entitled SKATEBOARDING IS NOT ART, the most ICONIC GRAPHICS OF SKATEBOARDING IN THE 1980s, curated by Nathan Pernisa.
“It is the 1980s and skateboarding is literally exploding in the United States and consequently throughout the rest of the world. The boards, from simple rough wooden planks, begin to have more and more elaborate and colourful shapes and graphics, created by semi-unknown local artists.
In this decade, the spread of skateboarding around the globe made these graphics visual icons, forever imprinted in the memory of the thousands of skateboarders who whizzed through the streets or on the self-made wooden ramps at that time.
This exhibition is a journey through time between those iconic images and the creative freedom of that decade in which new ways of expression were born that gave birth to a true culture.”
