Except: 25 December 2025 and 1 January 2026
Ravenna, Around the Halls

On the occasion of the Biennial of Contemporary Mosaic, from 18th October 2025 to 18th January 2026, several hotels in the city will participate in the exhibition AROUND THE HALLS, curated by Daniele Torcellini and Chiara Gizzi. This is a new addition to the Biennale, aimed at highlighting the city’s increasingly strong connection with its rich artistic heritage.

The lobbies of the Palazzo Bezzi, Palazzo Galletti Abbiosi, NH Ravenna, Gironda, Chez Papa, Casa Masoli, Hotel Diana and Santa Maria Foris will host works by artists from the Academy of Fine Arts in Ravenna and the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, thus becoming shared and widespread exhibition spaces, open to dialogue between art, the city and hospitality, offering citizens and visitors the opportunity to discover contemporary mosaics in unusual and welcoming contexts.

INSTALLATIONS

CASA MASOLI

Address: Via Girolamo Rossi, 22

Un aprés midi, triptych by Giorgia Pettinari

The triptych is part of the initial phase of a research project that began with the legacy of Ravenna’s Byzantine mosaics. The artist explores the themes of the threshold, which is both a limit and a possibility for events to occur, and transparency, both a visual and ontological condition, as ways of exploring man’s connection with his origins and with nature in a horizon of plural connections.

CHEZ PAPA

Address: Via Pellegrino Matteucci, 14

Imparare a tremare by Daniela Iurato

Three works in which the mosaic is based on the principle of abandonment and suspension from all forms of control. The use of fragile materials creates a contrast with the mosaic fabric, generating a body-non-body, afflicted but capable of finding a new guise. This creates a play of contrasts in which the plain whiteness of the canvas responds to the relief of the mosaic, which extends until it dissolves into its tiny cement residues.

GIRONDA

Address: Via Armando Diaz, 15

Hall of absence by Aziz Sydygaliev

The works encapsulate the artist’s mosaic poetics, which is to highlight absence, the parts that are usually abandoned, to work with the fragments, the residues of the process, to give shape to a pause, a place that has a life of its own.

HOTEL DIANA

Address: Via Girolamo Rossi, 47

Bestiario antropomorfo by Isotta Folli

His career stems from a desire to pay homage to the dark side present in every person, which is usually condemned. The subjects in his works are monstrous, anthropomorphic, playful and fantastical figures, purely illustrative and rendered in rich colours and bold, decisive lines.

PALAZZO BEZZI

Address: Via di Roma, 45

Così e Colà – Ricombinazioni by Livio Savioli

An exhibition based on the free, spontaneous and intuitive gesture of recomposition: materials and textures become the real protagonists. They go beyond the surface and become bearers of memory, traces and lived time. Through combinations, cuts and overlaps, the past is transformed and reinvented in the present, turning fragments into stories and scraps into living presences.

PALAZZO GALLETTI ABBIOSI

Address: Via di Roma, 140

Tra il desiderio e l’illusione by Jae Hee Kim

The title summarises the profound meaning of the artist’s research: sometimes in life we lose ourselves between desires and unattainable dreams. We chase illusions, hoping for success and happiness, only to discover the trap of their emptiness, experiencing the abyss. We are attracted by the charm of what we cannot possess and, even if painful, we never stop chasing it.

SANTA MARIA FORIS

Address: Via Giuseppe Pasolini, 61

What I see by Alice Zanelli

The collection of works is based on dualism: darkness and light, memory and oblivion. These seemingly opposing elements are presented as two sides of the same reality, intertwined with each other. The gaze becomes a means of overcoming fear, opening our eyes to a reality that, despite its complexity, can be faced. The mosaic technique is a metaphor for this poetics and an extension of his thinking.
