Moro di Venezia boat

Moro di Venezia (Ravenna)

In 1992, the whole of Italy developed a passion for the historical feat of Moro di Venezia boat in the America’s Cup race, the most important sailing competition. Built by Raul Gardini, famous businessman from Ravenna, and steered by Paul Cayard, Moro di Venezia won the Louis Vuitton Cup and became the first non-english-speaking boat to long for the victory of the America’s Cup in 141 years of the race’s history. Moro di Venezia competed for the final leg of the race with the American sailing boat America, which in the end won with a score of 1-4.

From March 2021, “Moro di Venezia III”, one of the big brothers of the Moro di Venezia that reached the America’s Cup’s final in 1992, has been transferred to the head of the Candiano Canal, in an elevated and well visible position. The president of the North Adriatic Sea Port Authority Daniele Rossi said: “We gave back to Ravenna a symbol that marked an era. Now Ravenna’s citizens and tourists can see it. It’s fair for the city to have it, as it is a work of the intellect and the passion, it’s the story of Raul Gardini.”
