100 years after Pier Paolo Pasolini was born, the 33rd edition of RAVENNA FESTIVAL presents a rich programme of events – from music to ballet and theatre.
With more than a thousand artists and more than 120 shows, from June 1st to July 21st Pasolini’s words about Bach’s violin sonatas create an ideal fil rouge with artists as Giuseppe Gibboni, Accademia Bizantina, Elio Germano.
The polarity between flesh and heaven expressed by the title offers the opportunity to explore the many faces of the sacred, with representations of Saint Francis and Saint Augustine in the Basilica of San Vitale, The Canticles of Britten with tenor Ian Bostridge, Battiato’s Messa Arcaica and much more.
The programme is further enriched with the traditional presence of Riccardo Muti as head of his Orchestra Cherubini for the usual appointment with Le vie dell’Amicizia and the final concert, as well as with celebrities as Gidon Kremer, Christoph Eschenbach, Jordi Savall, 100Cellos with Giovanni Sollima and Enrico Melozzi, PFM, Diana Krall, Carmen Consoli, La Rappresentante di Lista, Béjart Ballet Lausanne, Hofesh Shechter II, a homage to Micha van Hoecke and the Autum Trilogy.
The Autum Trilogy closes the programme from October 31st to November 6th, and celebrates its first ten years by presenting the traditional formula that has made it one of the most awaited and loved appointments of the festival: three different operas, night after night, on the stage of the Dante Alighieri Theatre. This year’s protagonist are Mozart’s and Da Ponte’s masterpieces: Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni and Così fan tutte, respectively conducted by Giovanni Conti, Erina Yashima and Vladimir Ovodok.
