In 1741, librettist Charles Jennens elaborated a text based on the Bible and on Psalms taken from the "Book of Common Prayer", which was completed by Georg Friedrich Händel, finally giving birth to Messiah.
An oratorio of undoubted success that, according to the newspapers of that time, “the best experts agree in judging it his greatest musical work”.
