The age-old Italian tradition of cribs in the churches are artistic symbols of the popular culture, urging us to reflect on the mystery of the Nativity, and they are a very strong tradition also in Ravenna. You can admire them inside the churches and in the shop windows of the city centre, as well as in some seaside resorts on the coast of Ravenna.

Holy Family: Floating Nativity Scene

Artist Felice Nittolo amazes us with three figures starring mosaic and the Holy Family floats over the water of the crypt.

SAND NATIVITY SCENE - 11th EDITION

On a 400sqm-surface, international artists meet together to give life to an artistic sand crib, taking inspiration from paintings and statues and creating majestic works of art depicting Nativity scenes, some of them even higher than 3mt.

The entrance to Bethlehem - Living Nativity Scene at Classe
Casa dei Ragazzi and Basilica od Sant'Apollinare in Classe - Classe
Period and time: Monday, 24th December at 7pm, Monday, 30th December and Sunday, 6th January from 3pm to 6.30pm
Authors: Commissione del Presepio Vivente and Priest Don Mauro Marzocchi

On Christmas Eve, music, torches, craftsmen ateliers and Roman legionnaires. Moreover mulled wine and sweets for all. At 11.45pm a costumed parade will enter the Basilica of Sant'Apollinare in Classe for the Holy Mass. During the afternoon of Sunday, 6th Januart, at 4.30pm the Three Wise Men will arrive with gifts for Jesus and all the present children.


Nativity Scene in Lido Adriano

Time: 11am - 12pm and 4pm - 6pm (Mon. - Fri.), during holidays 30 min. before the Holy Mass (10.30 - 11.30)
Author: collaboration between association "Amare Lido Adriano" and the parish San Massimiliano Kolbe of Lido Adriano

It is 5mt lon and 2mt large. Inside it features pottery statues of the tradition and mechanical moving particulars
