With the new edition of RavennaMosaico, one of the most renowned contemporary US artists will arrive for the first time in Italy: Chuck Close. Famous for the portraits with a totally-personal technique, from 5 October to 12 January, the artist will present his latest works in a great exhibition at the Mar museum of Ravenna.
Leading figure in contemporary art since the early 70s, Chuck Close is an international artist who became famous for his portraits, inspired by photographs and then painted in a monumental-scale. Close has researched a wide range of techniques, including the mosaic technique he acquainted with while taking part in the artistic project of New York's subway. Thanks to the MTA Arts & Design Department, since 1980, the New York City Transit Authority has been taking care of the installation of permanent artworks in the underground's hallways of the metro stations.
The exhibition displays the latest series of portraits in mosaic, sided by related works such as printed material, tapestries, photographs, which witness how Mosaika Art and Design and Magnolia Editions worked in order to realise the mosaic installed in 2017 in the metro station Second Avenue-86th Street.
