Viva Dante • 2020
Throughout the city
Dates: du 05/09/2020 to 31/12/2020
Exiled from Florence, Dante Alighieri found his last refuge in Ravenna, where he wrote part of Purgatorio and Paradiso, and where he died on 13 September 1321.
Every year, the city of Ravenna, which he felt as his homeland, even if only for a relatively short period of time, pays homage to the Supreme Poet with a rich schedule of events to celebrate his figure and poetry.
In an ever-growing crescendo of energy that will mark the Seventh Centenary of Dante's death (1321 - 2021), Viva Dante features a full programme of events addressed to any kind of public, with scientific meetings, and occasions for exchange and debates.
The solemn celebrations of the ANNUAL, an emblematic occurrence to commemorate Dante, take traditionally place on the second Sunday of September with the Oil Ceremony donated by the Municipality of Florence.
This year it was the President of the Italian Republic SERGIO MATTARELLA to open the Celebrations of the Seven-hundredth death anniversary of Dante Alighieri on 5 September 2020, engaging Ravenna, Emilia-Romagna, and all Italy until the end of September 2021, when a great concert directed by Maestro Riccardo Muti will close the season of events dedicated to the Father of the Italian Language on this so important occasion.
A number of initiatives featuring institutional, literary, didactic and research events, as well as performances and exhibitions, will take place, along with structural interventions that will leave a tangible mark on this seventh centenary, in a path that will go beyond 2021.
With the direction of the Municipality of Ravenna, the support of Regione Emilia-Romagna, the collaboration of Comitato Dantesco di Ravenna, and the participation of all the city's cultural excellence.
