The Complex of San Nicolò hosts Tamo Museum - All the adventure of the mosaic (Tutta l'Avventura del Mosaico), a permanent exhibition dedicated exclusively to mosaics, that renews and widens its collection every year. The exhibition proposes a suggestive tour through important finds (some of which still unknown to the public) belonging to the Ravenna heritage of mosaics and to its territory, dating back to antique, late-antique and medieval period, up to the productions of modern and contemporary artists and experts in industrial mosaics.
Tamo cannot be strictly defined as a museum, but rather as a mosaic stronghold. It represents a fascinating journey through this ancient art, that allows visitors to admire, discover, understand, experiment and literally live the whole adventure of mosaic.
The innovative presentation of works distinguishes itself for its interactive set-ups and multimedia devices, for its plastic models, working tools, materials, animated reconstructions and advanced technological solutions.
TAMO. Mosaics between Hell and Heaven (Mosaici tra Inferno e Paradiso) is a new section of works dedicated to the poet Dante Alighieri opened in 2012. It was commissioned by the Municipality of Ravenna to great 20th Century Italian artists for the celebrations of the 8th centenary of Dante’s birth and consists of 21 precious, some of them large-size panels made on cartoon by Italian artists such as Purificato, Cantatore, Gentilini, Mattioli, Ruffini, Morigi Berti, Sassu and Saetti, and transformed into mosaic by artists and artisans from Ravenna, such as Libera Musiani, Giuseppe Salietti, Santo Spartà, Sergio Cicognani and Renato Signorini.
