Viva Dante • 2019
Throughout the city
Dates: from 25/08/2019 to 01/12/2019
Exiled from Florence, Dante Alighieri found his “last refuge” in Ravenna, where he wrote part of Purgatorio and Paradiso, and where he died on 13 September 1321. The city of Ravenna represented his homeland, even if only for a relatively short period of time, and intends to honour his Poet with Viva Dante, in an ever-growing crescendo of energy that is already foreseeing the days of the centenary.
A full programme, with almost one hundred events from the end of August until early December, attracts every kind of public with a wide range of scientific meetings, occasions for exchange, debates and inclusive creation of a real journey made of places, events, people, and encounters. The solemn celebrations dedicated to the Supreme Poet are an emblematic occurrence that takes traditionally place on the second Sunday of September with the Oil Ceremony donated by the Municipality of Florence.
The programme is the result of the commitment of many different personalities that research and present the thousands of nuances of Dante's all-time work.
