On Saturday, 18 May, the museums open their doors for a night on the occasion of Notte Europea dei Musei, an initiative supported by the Council of Europe and ICOM that involves thousands of museums in thirty different countries with the aim of promoting the European cultural identity in all the European states.
The sites of Polo Museale dell’Emilia-Romagna (sited in Ravenna) take part in this initiative with the late opening from 8pm of the Mausoleum of Theoderic, Arian Baptistery and National Museum (tickets office closure and last admission at 10.30pm).

The exhibition “Il mestiere delle Arti” will be visitable and families may participate to the activity “Mistero al Museo. Che fine han fatto i Piatti delle Belle?”
Moreover, on the occasion of the 2019 ICOM International Museum Day and the 20 Days of research on Glass, which will take place in Ravenna on 18 and 19 May 2019, the National Museum of Ravenna will display the famous Glass from San Vitale. The artifact dates back to the 6th century, and today, it is just a little colourless plate representing Christ Pantocrator. It was discovered together with other glass relics during the excavations by the Basilica of San Vitale carried out during the 20th century.
