In August, in the wonderful setting between San Vitale and Galla Placidia, both Unesco World Heritage, Matteo Salerno's Orchestra "Città di Ravenna" organizes concerts of jazz music, Portoguese fado, Opera, Argentine tango, classic music and Renaissance music. Italian and foreigners groups of very high level will perform and also tell stories and curiosities about songs they are going to execute with that pleasant informal register able to intrigue and make anyone approach to music.

Musical Festival "Under Galla Placidia Stars" reaches therefore its ninth edition, organized by Matteo Salerno on behalf of Ravenna Municipality. Also this year the program will be full of concerts that will take place in one of the most beautiful and suggestive places of Ravenna as the little square in front of Santa Maria Maggiore, between San Vitale Church and Galla Placidia Mausoleum.

We starts on Friday, August 3 with "Tango Under the Stars" evening, in which Ruben Peloni, one of the most famous Argentine tango singers, will perform accompanied by the Atypical Quartet El Rana and by a couple of dancers. On Sunday, August 5 will be the turn of "Women's Voices, From Edith Piaf to Nina Simone" concert, edited by eclectic singer Laura Fedele accompanied by her historical trio. Will follow on August 10, the date dedicated to Genoese school songwriters, in which will perform another important Italian voice as singer-actress Anna Maria Castelli, performing in a recital - accompanied by piano and accordion - entitled "It's Wonderful". On August 12 we will take a dip in the Far West, where we will taste country music atmospheres edited by one of the most active groups of this genre, Mismountain Boys; also in this occasion will perform groups of American country dancers. On August 17 will be proposed an homage to Marylin Monroe, on the fiftieth anniversary of her death, with a selection among her most famous songs as "Diamonds are The Girls Best Friends" and many others, taken from cinema masterpieces that saw her as an excellent star. Protagonist the splendid voice of Nicoletta Fabbri, known to the great audience for her collaboration with Nicola Piovani (Oscar winner for Roberto Benigni "La vita è bella" soundtrack), with whom she performed in the most important Italian and international theaters and cinema festivals. On August 19 the Festival wants to celebrate another great name of Italian music, Gorni Kramer, which most famous songs will be executed by an exceptional quintet composed by accordion, guitar, trompet, bass and drums. "Under Galla Placidia Stars" ends on August 24 with a beautiful homage to Mina edited by Silvia Querci, which voice has been repeatedly protagonist of the last successful musicals beside Riccardo Cocciante and Pooh. The show, enriched from the telling of stories and curiosities about Mina, starts from the end of the '50s up to the last successes of the so-called Tiger of Cremona.

The Festival is possible thanks to the contribution of the Municipality of Ravenna, of Banca Popolare and Bambini Srl. In bad weather Casa Matha offers its spaces to retrieve the shows. The initiative is part of the activities of Ravenna Capitale 2019, is supported by Regione Emilia Romagna and is under the artistic direction of Matteo Salerno.
