The Museum Classis Ravenna will host the exhibition Tesori ritrovati. Il banchetto di Bisanzio a Ravenna: interesting in-depth research on the Late Antique feast traditions, displaying a number of eating utensils in silver coming from Cesena and from the archaeological area of the Ancient Port of Classe.
The exhibition itinerary starts from their recovery documents: The story of a hidden treasure that has been recovered is the focus of many archaeological findings.
In Antiquity, valuables were intentionally concealed in order to keep them safe, in view of a forthcoming threat (wars, civil struggles, epidemics). he concealment was meant to be provisional, hoping to recover what had been buried. As a matter of fact, as the plates coming from Cesena and the little treasure of Classe prove, the concealment was final.
This display, following storytelling started last year, fully fits in the exhibition itinerary of the museum Classis Ravenna, where one or more items of the permanent collection are further enhanced by findings from other museums, offering in this way a wider perspective of the meaning of history that the object represents.
The exhibition has been promoted and organized by Fondazione Parco Archeologico di Classe - RavennAntica, Municipality of Ravenna - Culture Department and Soprintendenza Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio of the provinces of Ravenna, Forlì-Cesena and Rimini.
