From March the TAMO Museum in Ravenna will host the photography exhibition S.I.R.I.A. (Salvezza Illuminazione Redenzione nell’Iconografia dell’Architettura) - Mosaici pavimentali siriani. curated by Giovanna Bucci (with the scientific support of Paolo Racagni).
Set up in a space that the architect Paolo Bolzani designed in occasion of the Imperituro - Renovatio Imperii exhibition, S.I.R.I.A will be focused on some North Syrian floors of particular interest because of their decorative patterns hiding many symbols related to the representation of the Holy Sepulchre. In the background of the tragic situation of the Middle East, the exhibition aims to offer a different perspective on those territories, highlighting the importance of archaeological research and iconography, and the renovation and preservation of a unique mosaic heritage.
The exhibition is made possible by the interest of Fondazione RavennAntica towards the conservation and protection of the Mediterranean Cultural Heritage, in collaboration with Direzione Generale delle Antichità e dei Musei della Siria, Dipartimento di Archeologia dell’Università di Bologna, Soprintendenza Archeologia dell’Emilia-Romagna, Soprintendenza Beni Architettonici e Ambientali di Ravenna, Ministero degli Affari Esteri Italiano (Cooperazione Internazionale Italia - Siria).
