Two artists under the age of 40 have been awarded: she is Elisa Strinna (b. 1982), originally from Padua but living in Maastricht; he is Giuseppe De Mattia (b. 1980), from Bari but living in Bologna. And then, there is a national commission of 11 members among artists, critics and intellectuals; a collective french orphic cubism group of the early 20th century that inspired an exhibition in Ravenna in 1979 and that inspires today the first edition of an international contemporary art award.
All this is La Tradizione del Nuovo - Premio Giulio Guberti Anno I, a prize and an exhibition dedicated to Italian artists under 40. It will be on display from 23rd June to 15th July in the venues of the MAR - Ravenna Art Museum, questioning about returns, reminiscences and restorations. This is a new way to look at the future: the future of the museum, of the audience, of the city and of the contemporary art in Italy.
This Award, curated by Elettra Stamboulis, is dedicated to Giulio Guberti, doctor and critic who curated a very important season of exhibitions at the former Municipal Art Gallery of Ravenna. It is supported by the Municipality of Ravenna, the Department of Culture, the Emilia Romagna Region and the clinic Domus Nova, of which Guberti was medical director for a long time.
Tradizione del Nuovo is also the name of the review that accompanied all the experience and that today guides the inquiry work of any new biennial edition of the prize.
