School trips

Renowned all over the world for its artistic and historic treasures, the city of Ravenna is a recommended destination for study and school trips.

Several educational itineraries are offered to students at any level:
• HISTORIC-ARTISTIC ITINERARY: students will have the chance to retrace the centuries after the fall of the Roman Empire (from 5th to 8th century AD) and to follow the development of the arts of Late Antiquity and of the Byzantine period through the beautiful mosaics preserved in the main monuments of the city, eight of which were designeted UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1996.

- Basilica of San Vitale
- Basilica of Sant'Apollinare Nuovo
- Mausoleum of Galla Placidia
- Neonian Baptistery
- Archiepiscopal Chapel, also know as Saint Andrew's Chapel
- Arian Baptistery
- Mausoleum of Theoderic
- Basilica of Sant'Apollinare in Classe

The first five UNESCO monuments on this list can be visited upon purchase of an inclusive ticket of 8,50€ per student that can be bought at every ticket office (no tickets for single monuments available). Teacher will get a free admission every 10 paying students. Free admission is always guaranteed for kids under 10 years of age and disabled people.

From 1st March to 15th June entrances to the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia are subject to a 2€ surcharge. The groups wishing to visit the Mausoleum must previously book by calling the toll-free number 800.303.999 or +39 0544 541688

The admission to the Basilica of Sant’Apollinare in Classe and to the Mausoleum of Theoderic is free of charge for citizens of the European Union aged under 18 and for Italian school groups (state or private) accompanied by their teachers and authorized by their principal; EU citizens aged between 18 and 25, Italian state teachers with permanent contracts, Italian citizens living abroad and non-EU citizens on reciprocity condition will benefit a 50% reduction (2,50€ per person). All tickets can be purchased on site.

Admission to the Arian Baptistery is free of charge.

• LITERARY ITINERARY: Connections between the mosaic art and some important poets can be highlighted. Dante Alighieri in person was inspired by the beauty of the mosaics of Ravenna for some verses of his Divine Comedy. For this Itinerary we highly recommend a visit to Dante's Tomb, to the Basilica of San Francesco and to the old Franciscan Cloisters and Dante Museum.

• ARCHAEOLOGICAL ITINERARY: An Itinerary to discover the history of Ravenna and its territory through material remains. From the National Museum to the Domus of the Stone Carpets, from the so-called Theoderic's Palace to Tamo Museum, ending with Ancient Port of Classe, the harbour district of the ancient city of Classe, ca. 4 km south of the city centre.
