The Bassa del Bardello is the initial part of a long depressed area of ancient origin known as "Bassa del Pirotolo", situated to the north of San Vitale pinewood and ending in the so-called "Buca del Cavedone". The natural area consists of grasslands swamped with fresh-water, populated by turtles, grebes, herons, gray herons and other animal species and covered by various plant types such as water buttercups.
The tower of Valle Mandriole is the only observation point overlooking the entire area and a meeting place for nature lovers and for the curious. It offers a wonderful view of the landscape that includes the heronries of Valle Mandriole and reaches Punte Alberete.
