Luigi Rasi Theatre is hosted in the former Church of Santa Chiara, constructed in the mid-13th century together with the adjacent Franciscan monastery Santo Stefano in Fundamento.
Deconsecrated at the time of Napoleon's suppressions, the complex became first a riding school and was then converted into a theatre, when at the end of the 19th century the Accademia Filodrammatica asked for the concession of the building.
Traces of the ancient structure are still visible in the area of the stage, the former apse of the church, that used to be decorated with frescoes of the 14th century, then removed and restored and now on display in the National Museum of Ravenna.
Today, the Rasi Theatre hosts various theatre and cultural events.
The theatre is located in the city centre of Ravenna. Car park nearby. Bus stop 50m away. Close to Basilica Sant'Apollinare Nuovo, Santuario di Santa Maria in Porto, MAR (City art museum) and Chiesa di San Giovanni Evangelista.
