Porta Serrata

Located at the point where Via di Roma meets the road to Sant’Alberto, Porta Serrata leads to the northern district of Ravenna. In the past, the gate was called Porta Anastasia and later Porta Cybo; the oldest document referring to its present name dates back to 1235. The brick construction shows pieces of marble and Istrian stone; its arch is decorated with an ashlar motive and a keystone which is suggestive of greek triglyphs. On either side of the gate, two rusticated semicolumns rise towards the massive trabeation and the plaque with an inscription. Two volutes adorn the gable, which is framed by two pinnacles.

How to get there
The gate is situated in the city centre. Bus lines 2, 3 and 8; bus stops in Rotonda dei Goti and Via Sant'Alberto. Free car park in Piazzale Torre Umbriatica, pay and diplay car park at Piazzale Giustiniano. Railway station 500m away.
